Reggie Hearn from Northwestern has won StatSheet's Big Ten Player of the Week for January 21st. Sam Dekker from Wisconsin has earned StatSheet's Big Ten Freshman of the Week. And last but not least, Nick Colella from Penn State is StatSheet's Big Ten 6th Man of the Week. Hearn put up big numbers in rebounding (2.5 per game), shooting (60%), and scoring (21 pts per game). The Northwestern senior played well for the Wildcats in a win against 23rd ranked Illinois and a loss to Indiana.
Hearn led scoring for the Wildcats with 20 points on 57% shooting in a 68-54 upset win over Illinois. In the next game he led all scoring with 22 points on 58% shooting in a 67-59 loss to Indiana.
This is the first time this season that Reggie Hearn has been selected StatSheet Big Ten Player of the Week. The runner-up this week is Deshaun Thomas, a junior from Ohio State. Honorable mention goes to Austin Hollins, a junior from Minnesota. D.J. Byrd, who finished 15th, was the highest ranking player from Purdue.
StatSheet Big Ten Freshman of the Week: Wisconsin's Sam Dekker
Sam Dekker played an average of 25 minutes starting both games for Wisconsin. He bested all Big Ten freshmen in three pointers (2.0 per game). In a late 64-59 win over Indiana, Dekker registered 10 points and 4 rebounds. In a 70-66 loss to Iowa, he added 13 points and 4 assists.
This marks the first time this season that Sam Dekker has won the StatSheet Big Ten Freshman of the Week. The runner-up is Nik Stauskas from Michigan. Honorable mention goes to Glenn Robinson III from Michigan. A.J. Hammons was the highest ranking freshman from Purdue and finished 7th.
StatSheet Big Ten 6th Man of the Week: Penn State's Nick Colella
Senior Nick Colella, a 6-3 reserve guard, averaged 30 minutes over two games for the Nittany Lions. In an 81-72 loss to Michigan State, Colella added 6 points and 4 rebounds. During a 68-64 loss to Nebraska, he racked up 6 points and 6 rebounds.
This is the first StatSheet Big Ten 6th Man of the Week award for Nick Colella. Shannon Scott, a sophomore guard from Ohio State, is runner up. Melsahn Basabe, a junior forward from Iowa, receives honorable mention. The highest ranking 6th man from Purdue was Anthony Johnson who finished 4th. Purdue players have not yet been named StatSheet Big Ten Player of the Week this season.
