John Shurna from Northwestern has earned StatSheet's Big Ten Player of the Week award for February 6th. Dave Sobolewski from Northwestern has won StatSheet Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Shurna was the Big Ten leader in scoring (26.0 pts per game). He also tallied 4 rebounds per game and 70% shooting. The Northwestern senior put these numbers up in wins against Nebraska and Illinois.

Shurna led scoring for the Wildcats with 28 points while adding 2 blocked shots in an 84-74 win against Nebraska. In the next game he led all scoring with 24 points and added 2 assists in a narrow 74-70 victory against Illinois.

This is a familiar honor for John Shurna, who has been named StatSheet Big Ten Player of the Week three times. He has also come in second once and received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is Ohio State sophomore Jared Sullinger. Honorable mention goes to Illinois junior Brandon Paul. Robbie Hummel, who finished fifth, was the highest ranking player from Purdue.

StatSheet Big Ten Freshman of the Week: Northwestern's Dave Sobolewski

Dave Sobolewski averaged 39 minutes starting both games for Northwestern. His average in three pointers (2.5 per game) led all Big Ten freshmen. In the win over Nebraska, Sobolewski led all rebounding for the Wildcats with 6 and also pitched in 5 assists. Then in the win against Illinois, he dialed up 14 points and 2 assists.

This is the first StatSheet Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor for Dave Sobolewski. Cody Zeller from Indiana grabs runner-up. Honorable mention goes to Branden Dawson from Michigan State. The highest ranking freshman from Purdue was Jacob Lawson who finished 7th. Purdue has yet to win the StatSheet Big Ten Player of the Week award this season.
